About the event
Celebrate the era of bell-bottoms, Bowie and board-marked concrete, when Adelaide’s modernist architects embraced brutalism and the sculptural and structural possibilities of concrete.
Interest in brutalist architecture is exploding around the world, and Adelaide is absolutely packed with brutalist buildings that are very well preserved due to our low pollution and Mediterranean climate.
This relaxed and informative one-hour walk through downtown Adelaide led by mid-century modern architecture and design enthusiast Stuart Symons will explore some of our finest examples of brutalism, from the iconic Forensic Science Centre and former Motor Registration Centre to government headquarters and banking chambers.
Weather policy: the Brutalist Adelaide walking tour will go ahead rain or shine.
