Author Talk: Modernist Adelaide with Stuart Symons

Stuart Symons is helping people better appreciate Adelaide’s mid-century architecture. Regular city walking tours, house tours, exhibitions, presentations and his book Modernist Adelaide: 100 Buildings 1940s–1970s tell the story of the rise of modernist architecture in South Australia in the context of its growth internationally.

Our city is filled with mid-century gems, but as well as aesthetic and functional value, these buildings tell stories about the rapid transformation of the economy, culture and communities of post-war Adelaide.

Through this fast-paced talk through time, Stuart will share his favourite local buildings, introduce the great minds that designed and built them, and explore what they can tell us about ourselves in 2023.

A fascinating author talk for anyone interested in architecture, design, local history, society and culture, placemaking, retro and mid-century modern chic, construction or even industrial design.
